FGM and social norms

What is Female Genital Mutilation? What is a social norm? What is gender inequality? What is the role of law reforms? Which are the processes leading to social change?

“Dynamics of a social norm: Female Genital Mutilation” is the first of four animated videos produced by AIDOS. The video aims to answer these questions and to support the long-term work against FGM. The campaign was launched on February 6th 2021, International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

The video was produced as a support tool for the UNFPA-UNICEF Manual on Social Norms and Change. Several other videos on Gender inequality, Legislative Framework and Social Change will be published during the course of 2021. These videos were produced in the framework of the “Building Bridges between Africa and Europe to tackle FGM” project, supported by the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme on the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation, of which the Community of Practice is part.
