Webinar 2020, 9th June: “Supporting women and girls living with FGM: focus on mental health and well-being”
As part of the discussion on mental health, well-being and FGM, the Community of Practice on FGM organises a webinar on 2020, June 9th at 3pm (Brussels time – click here to convert to your time zone) dealing with this issue. Another one will be organised in French on June 17th, further information to come soon.
This webinar aims to discuss the consequences FGM can have on women and girls’ mental health and address the issues in bringing them psychological support. Each woman has her own specific story and experience, thus the support proposed cannot be unique and universal. Therapists adapt their work to the social, cultural context of the women they receive, her life and personal story.
To further discuss these questions, two speakers and a moderator will share their experiences and work:
- Venoranda Rebecca Kuboka, Team leader at Youth Changers Kenya, psychologist
- Doctor Farzana, FGM survivor from the Bohra community, writer, activist, and psychotherapist
